The War on Drugs Turns 40
The war on drugs has been incarcerating people of color on a large scale for the last forty years. As Michelle Alexander, author of The New Jim Crow said, “The enemy in this war has been racially defined. The drug war, not by accident, has been waged almost exclusively in poor communities of color.” It’s time to end this racist policy and invest in communities and treatment.
